Backed by Stanford Medicine, MEandMine is a behavioral intelligence platform that helps students build self-regulation skills and detect early risk signals using proprietary deep learning models. Every day, our platform supports over 50,000 students across 250+ schools and health centers, reducing behavioral incidents by 51% and improving self-regulation skills by 71%. It serves as a co-pilot to our school and health center partners, strengthening MTSS/PBIS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports / Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) systems and building a strong preventive layer across the continuum of care.
Role
MEandMine is looking for a hands-on Director of Engineering to lead our technical vision and execution. In this role, you will be a true “leader who builds” — rolling up your sleeves to build alongside and manage a purely software-focused engineering team of 8-10 engineers across machine learning, backend, frontend, and game development.
You will own the full software engineering lifecycle — from architecture and development to deployment and production — while partnering closely with cross-functional teams to build impactful, data-driven products at startup speed.

What We Are Looking For
Technical Expertise
  • Expert-level knowledge of cloud-native engineering; Google Cloud Platform experience strongly preferred.
  • Deep understanding of database technologies — SQL and NoSQL — with a track record of making sound architectural decisions and implementing performance optimizations.
  • Comfortable driving daily engineering operations: cloud infrastructure monitoring, and troubleshooting across front-end, game, and back-end services.

  • Data-obsessed: you love collecting, analyzing, and acting on data to guide engineering and product decisions rather than relying on gut feel alone.
  • Can-do startup attitude — you move fast, stay pragmatic, and aren't afraid to roll up your sleeves when the situation calls for it.
Qualifications
  • Professional fluency in both Mandarin and English.
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years in an architect or tech lead role.
  • Demonstrated strong drive and leadership potential. Experience managing a team of 5 is preferred.
  • Proven ability to drive a project from greenfield inception through to production — owning decisions, trade-offs, and delivery.
  • Strong cross-team communication skills with the ability to prioritize and coordinate engineering deliverables across multiple stakeholders.
  • Must have at least 3 hours of overlap with PST time zone daily for meetings and close collaboration with team members based in the United States.
  • Prior experience at a startup or in a high-velocity development environment where shipping quickly and iterating fast is the norm is a plus.
Compensation
  • Compensation will be discussed with candidates based on experience and qualifications.
  • ESOP participation will be offered.
